Tulip Tree is one of the tallest growing native trees in Eastern North America, competing with the White Pine. We are at the Northernmost part of its range so consider it to be another species we are helping to migrate. It is in the Magnolia family, produces unique tulip like flowers. The leaves are also a very distinct shape and quite pretty. It was prized amongst many Indigenous groups in the Appalachians and South for making dug-out canoes. It is considered a "mid-wood" (as in not a soft-wood nor a hard-wood), and is seen as a valuable timber tree because of its straight and fast growth habit.
